I Was Here - Mouse Lemur

"I Was Here'', a project focusing on bringing awareness to animal conservation and protection.

I was recently commissioned by Calgary Zoo in Canada to create a realistic mouse lemur for their educational programs. I thought it would be a great to include this little creature in my 'I Was Here' project.

The mouse lemur are some of the smallest primates in the world, roughly 27cm from head to tip of the tail with the pygmy mouse lemur being the smallest. There are more than 20 species of mouse lemur with more being discovered today. They have large eyes relative to the size of the head as they a nocturnal animals. Mouse lemurs are omnivorous meaning their diet consists of mostly fruits, flowers, nectar as well as insects and small vertebrates.

Mouse lemurs live in a group of mostly females of about 15 and rarely leave the safety of the tree tops. They are found on the island of Madagascar and are under the threatened species list, although these lemurs are protected from hunting, they are still victims of the exotic pet trade, but their biggest threat is habitat destruction.

Help protect mouse lemurs and say no to the pet and fur trade.

The mouse lemur has a Sculpey face that is an original sculpture hand crafted by me, his and unique hands were sculpted from a bendable rubber. His body is made from a thick pile faux fur which was designed and sewn by me, he has a wire armature inside making him fully poseable, his face was furred by hand and painted in acrylic paints.

He is approximately 27x10cm head to tail.

This little lady is sold, but more dolls are available in my Etsy shop. Alternatively you can check me out on my social media pages below. Also check out my Society6 and Redbubble shop for prints and more.
